Root's Hometown is a Family Business 

Rick Root started Root's Hometown Furniture and Appliances in 1999 after receiving a Business Administration degree from Oklahoma State University in 1970, serving in the U.S. Army as a chaplain's assistant during the Vietnam War,  and then working 30 years  for Occidental Petroleum Corporation as an executive in Human Resources.  Always wanting to work with people, the furniture and appliance business was a perfect fit.

His daughter, Michelle Morquecho, started with the business in 1999 working parttime as a sales representative and then going  full-time in 2002 as the store credit manager.   Michelle  attended Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee studying to be a Legal Assistant.  She brings in-depth business and legal knowledge to the business.

His son Rick Root Jr.  and son-in-law Tony Morquecho joined the business in 2005  as appliance service technicians.  Rick Jr. attended Oklahoma Central Technology School of Robotics and then Oklahoma State University Okmulgee majoring in Electronics.  He was later a mechanical journeyman in the sheet metal trade.  Tony attended Oklahoma State University and Central State University.  Later he owned and managed a convenience store.   He was also a sheet metal mechanical journeyman.  Both Rick Jr. and Tony bring a lot of business and technical expertise to the company.  After working in retail sales at various companies, daughter-in-law, Melissa Root joined the company in 2006 as a sales associate.  She is now the sales manager at our Cushing store.

Rick's wife Linda joined the furniture and appliance company in 2008 after her own successful career, owning and operating Root Properties Real Estate for over 20 years.   Linda brings a proven sales background to the company and knows the importance of working with customers to help find what works best for them.   From her exposure to hundreds of homes during her real estate days, she has become an expert in room layout and interior design.  She also creates all the decorative floral arrangements in the store.

Long time employee Robin Murphy has been with the company since 2001 working as the store office manager.  Robin previously worked as a WalMart department manager and a grocery store assistant manager.  She has strong customer relations skills.  She knows how to work with the customer to find the best quality for the lowest price.  Other long time employees include Pat Crawford and John Hunter who take care of  the furniture and appliance deliveries.  Both have worked in other service fields and know the importance of the customer. 

In December, 2009, Dean Cearley, Christi Robinson, Brandon Goodson, Tamara Creekmore, and Fred Johnson Jr. joined the company at our Cushing location.  Dean, Christi and Tamara bring several years of business and finance knowledge to the company.  Brandon, a former Bristow football standout, along with Fred, who has previously worked in the furniture delivery business, lead our Cushing delivery team.  

The company has grown over 300 percent in sales during the first 10 years in business.   We're looking forward to continued growth through word of mouth advertising and referrals by our customers.
